Racing Guide - BMX


BMXs traditional racing season is from spring to autumn, though now with a number of tracks having floodlights, some now run winter racing too.

Where to start

Almost all BMX tracks have a home club (sometimes more than one), so the best way to start out is at a club session, where you can learn the skills, borrow a bike and take part in training races.

Local and Regional Racing

Many Go-Ride clubs will run BMX Go-Ride Races for novice youth racers. Find them use the filters on the British Cycling calendar.

Apart from specific Go-Ride Races, the vast majority of event have catagories for all ages - BMX is a vey family friendly discpline.

Floodlight Race Series, short series running across London during winter.

London BMX Race Series, monthly races running across London, spring to autumn.

South BMX Series. BMX has a different regional boundary to other discplines. The "Regionals" series runs over around 10 rounds across the South East of England, spring to autumn.

National Racing

For riders excelling in the local and regional series, the British BMX Series runs with rounds across the country..

The regions top 4 boys and top 4 girls will be selected to represent the South every September at the Inter-Regional/UK School games. Contact the team manager to be considered. Contact the team manager to be considered.

Throughout summer, British Cycling's Regional Performance Pathway team run the well-respected monthly circuit Regional School of Racing (RSR) sessions for under 16 riders. Competent BMX racers are nominated by their club to attend. For more information contact our Regional Performance Pathway Coach.

Top youth riders may be selected for the Olympic Development Apprentice (ODA) programme, the progression on from the RSR sessions on the GB Cycling Team Performance Pathway.
